It wasn't a really big church, but it was decent sized.
The interior looked like a normal church
with one exception. Yes there was the chair that "Bishop" Al Green sat in when he was there. Unfortunately, he wasn't there. We knew he had performed in Louisville the night before, so he must have been too tired to make it.
It was a great service. there was great music and singing and audience participation. I felt I shouldn't take pictures during the service out of respect.
I did take a video of the closing. Check out the "Mothers" and how they are dressed to the nines. The guy at the organ was incredible.
The minister had promised that he wouldn't preach too long as it was hot and Al was out of town, so it was over in under two hours. It is not uncommon for services to go up to four hours.
We had some time to kill so went to an outlet store that had Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and West Elm products. It was interesting to walk through but we didn't get much. It was very hot again so we thought we would go into the Target and get something to drink, but it was all tore up so that section was closed. So we decided to drive
to our next destination and see what we could find on the way.
We picked out our designs and waited for the artist to get set up. He was a little intense but eventually loosened up. He took his job very seriously and did great. There are no pictures of the tattoos. Sorry!
Our last item on the agenda for the day was to go to Gus's Fried Chicken. We had eaten there last year and it was really good. It's just fried chicken, but they add a little Louisiana Hot Sauce to the coating and that gives it a nice zing.
As you can see, it looks delicious and was! It just comes with creamy coleslaw and beans. I added more hot sauce!
By now, it was time to take our weary, but soul-filled bodies back to our hotel. On the way, I snapped a picture of The Great American Pyramid. It is an arena built in 1991.
We didn't even go to Beale Street this time, so I don't have pictures. It's the kind of place that is nice to see, but it is real tourist oriented.
So, another day over and I'm still behind. We are off to St. Louis tomorrow.
