Meine Bauch ist so voll!

I can't believe we have spent a week on the road. It was time to head back west. It was only about 185 miles to Columbus and we didn't have much on our list so we took our time leaving our comfy room at the Residence Inn. The day started out cool and cloudy. It was nice driving and once we got out of the construction in Pittsburgh things went pretty smoothly. We didn't think we would be in a new state on this trip, but the highway took us across the very northern tip of West Virginia for about 15 miles. We had originally planned on going to Charleston, but everyone we talked to said to not go to West Virginia.
Well we did and here it is:
We bypassed Wheeling and crossed the Ohio River and continued on our way. We stopped at a gas station in Morristown, Ohio. It was a unique place with antiques for sale among the merchandise. On the liquor cooler was a sign that said: "No alcohol sold on Sunday so make sure you buy it on Saturday".

We made it to our hotel, a Four Points by Sheraton.
It is Sheraton's version of a budget hotel, although it was still very nice. Linda had read that there was a German town, Hungarian town, and Italian town in Columbus but on further research the only town that still had ethnic shops was German town. We set our GPS for an address there and took off. It is a really neat area of simple brick houses packed together with small cobblestone streets and alleyways. We went to a few shops that were left. I didn't take a picture because it was really hard to capture the way it looked because there were a lot of trees covering things up.
We ended our tour of German town by eating at Schmidt's Sausage Haus. It wasn't even 5:00, but it was pretty busy already. We decided to pass on the opportunity to have our picture taken of the people with the cutouts where you can stick your head in.
As we entered, the sausages were right there to purchase along with the bakery items. The menu was all German food and they were featuring a buffet that night that had everything on the menu so we figured "what the hell" or "Was zur Holle".
We started with a couple of beers. We passed on the 36 oz. and settled for the 22.  The food was pretty good. The homemade brats and knackwurst were good, but not as good as what we had at Primanti's the day before. We hadn't been there long when a family with two young boys were seated next to us. In typical German fashion, the tables were very close. Well, the youngest boy was having a bad day or maybe life. He was crying and screaming and when his mom left he screamed "Mommy, Mommy" even more. The parents really didn't have a clue what to do with himSo our goal was to get out of there ASAP so we ate pretty quickly and took our desserts with us even though we didn't have room for them anyway. Their specialty was cream puffs and they were huge and eventually very good. Sorry no pictures!
By this time, it was only 6:00 so it wasn't really time to go back to our room. Lindy had read about a place called Sugardaddys that had won a Bobby Flay's Throwdown for their brownies so we went there, but it had just closed. There was another one so Lindy called the number and they were open 'til 7:00. We plugged the address into the GPS and it was 17 miles away, but we figured we weren't gonna do too much more since by that time the German food and beer had settled in our stomachs and was starting to expand.
Once we got there, we waddled out of the car and slowly made our way to the store. The brownies looked amazing. I will describe them because, again no picture! They were about the size of a large English muffin. Some had fillings in the middle. We got a blondie with nuts, a brownie with peanut butter, and a caramel mocha brownie. We drove the 16 miles back to our hotel and crashed for the night. It was 7:30 and Wheel of Fortune was on. Then we remembered we were in Eastern time and prime time doesn't start until 8:00. We waited until 9:00 to watch America's Got Talent and waited for the German food to digest. I am writing this the next morning and I think maybe it is almost done. The sad thing is that there is a Waffle House just down the road-I don't know if we'll be able to handle it or not.
Anyway, sorry for the lack of pictures (for once!). On to Louisville!
