Singing in the rain

Here we are at Day 6 of our travel blog. We only had a couple of things on our list of things to do so decided to go to the mall because Lindy had scratched her sunglasses and it was hard for her to see to drive. So, after three hours at the Ross Park Mall, Lindy had a new pair of polarized Ray Bans.

By then it was time to go have lunch at Primanti Brothers. This was on our list as Andy had said we had to go there. It was rustic to say the least, but at 1:30 in the afternoon there was still a line out the door. We got a seat at the counter and ordered.

There were two ladies making the sandwiches and serving them. They were amazing to watch.

The specialty of the sandwiches is that they have the whole meal in the sandwich. There is the meat and the provolone cheese, then the tomato and coleslaw, then the freshly cut fries held together by hand sliced white home-made bread. I had knockwurst and Lindy had kobassa. It tasted like it came from Piff Hetrick's locker plant in
Alma back in the 60's. Smoky, lean, and not ground too fine.
After lunch we walked down Penn Street which is 4 blocks of shops, restaurants and grocery stores of many ethnicities. Wooley's Market was a huge grocery store with all sorts of fresh meat and seafood. They had all sorts of different kinds of fresh fish on ice.
They also had tanks of live fish: sea bass, trout, tilapia and lobsters. There were Asian, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean grocery stores, spice and coffee stores, souvenir shops and clothing stores with handmade goods from South America.
We especially liked the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company which had an enormous array of food products from Italy. We had to get a few olives to to back to the room. We also got some unique pasta because we knew that would travel OK.
We had some time to go back to our room and relax before the big game. Staying at the Residence Inn is nice because they have a decent breakfast and a manager's reception during the week. Before we went over to the game and had beer and nachos. There was also pretzels and wine available for free!
On to the game! We knew we had to leave early because it would take quite awhile to get to the stadium. Oh, no, I guess we just had to walk across the street! It is a beautiful stadium with a great view of the Pittsburgh skyline.

The game started and the clouds rolled in. The rain already started in the first inning. We decided to just sit it out. The rain kept coming. The first inning was over and they decided to call a rain delay. As they covered the field, we decided to move up under the covered area of the stands.
The video screen began to play Gene Kelly singing "Singing in the Rain. It was a pretty cool idea.
Here is a video clip if you want to take the time to watch.
While we were waiting, you could text a message to: "BUCCO" and it would show up on the scrolling text banner that goes around the stadium. So I texted: "Love ya Lindy for 32 years!" and sure enough, it came up! The picture is kinda blurry, but you can sorta make it out.
The rain didn't last too long, but it took quite awhile to get the game started again. Meanwhile, we went up to get something to eat and find some paper towels to dry our seats off. We decided to get wings from Quaker State. We got a half bucket with L.A. Lick sauce-garlic, sweet, and BBQ.
They were very good, but I'm not sure why we thought we would eat 20 wings. So we asked the people around us if anybody wanted wings and this young kid in front of us said he would, so he and his family finished them off.
The game was pretty boring, but it was a great night once the rain quit. It cooled off and there was a light breeze to keep any bugs away. We managed to get one more decent picture of us-dry. Once the game was done, we embarked on our long journey home and settled in for the evening.
